Come join us for a Connect workshop at the 2022 International Attachment Pre-Conference, Wednesday July 13th

Pre-conference Meeting; 2022 International Attachment Conference

Lisbon, Wednesday July 13th, 2022, 9:00am-4:30pm

Connect is a 10-week, manualized, attachment-based, and trauma-informed intervention for parents and alternative caregivers of youth ages 8-18 years who struggle with serious behavioural, mental health, and social problems. The program is designed to promote parental reflective function through role plays, reflective exercises, and emotion focused learning, and to strengthen parenting sensitivity, dyadic affect regulation, and parent-teen mutuality and partnership. A series of randomized clinical trials and uncontrolled research studies have provided strong for the effectiveness of Connect in reducing serious behaviour problems, callous and unemotional traits, oppositional behaviours, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. Results also indicate that parental depressed mood, parenting sense of competence, and parenting stress also significantly improve. Based on this evidence Connect is classified as a Level 1 (Supported Program) intervention by the California Evidence Based Clearinghouse (CEBC, 2022). Connect has been translated into seven languages and implemented across Canada, Sweden, Italy, Australia, South Africa, Mexico, China, and the USA.

This pre-conference workshop provides an overview of the Connect program and its implementation and evaluation in culturally and economically diverse populations. Presentations from an international network of Connect researchers, clinicians, mental health government, and agency stakeholders will provide research and practice updates on the virtual adaptation of Connect for on-line delivery (eConnect Online); implementation of Connect with culturally diverse and displaced parents; and the use of Connect for kinship and foster parents (Connect for Kinship and Foster Parents) and parents of gender diverse youth (Transforming Connections) will be discussed. We welcome those who wish to learn about attachment, adolescence and the Connect program, including those already trained in the program and those interested in pursuing training and/or research.
