Prospective Research Assistants and Volunteers

Position Title: Research Assistant or Volunteer

Status: The Adolescent Health Lab is not currently recruiting research assistants or volunteers for the Fall 2025 semester. Please check back next semester to see new opportunities. All inquiries should be directed to the lab at youth_project@sfu.ca.

Position Overview:

As a research assistant or volunteer, you will support our research team with ongoing projects (e.g., our provincial evaluation of an attachment-focused intervention). Candidates must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a social science discipline. A minimum of one year of research experience in a related academic field (e.g., psychology, sociology, education) is preferred.

Time and Location:

  • Minimum commitment of 5 hours/ week for at least 2 semesters.

  • You will be working remotely or in an office on the SFU Burnaby Mountain campus.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate data collection and participant follow-up for large studies implementing and evaluating interventions for at-risk families.

  • Prepare materials for community/professional presentations, manuscripts, and other knowledge translation activities.

  • Data entry, transcription of interviews, coding, and related works.

  • Opportunities to participate in/or launch new research.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Strong writing, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Meticulous attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and resourcefulness.

  • Ability to learn quickly and work both independently and in a collaborative team.

  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Excel; familiarity with university research ethics is an asset.

  • Interest in developing a research-oriented academic or clinical-research career.
